Emergencies

Emergency dentistry is a critical component of dental care, providing immediate treatment for unexpected dental issues requiring urgent attention. At Dental Bliss Clinic, we understand the urgency and discomfort that come with dental emergencies.

Our dedicated team is equipped to offer prompt and effective treatment to alleviate pain and address underlying dental issues as quickly as possible.

What is emergency dentistry?

Emergency dentistry involves diagnosing and treating dental conditions requiring immediate attention to relieve severe pain, stop ongoing tissue bleeding, or save a tooth. This specialised care is crucial for preventing long-term damage and the need for more extensive and costly treatment in the future.

What are some common dental emergencies?

Toothache: Intense and lingering tooth pain could signal an abscess or infection. Rinse your mouth with warm water, delicately use dental floss to clear any food particles between your teeth, and refrain from applying aspirin directly to the affected area.

Chipped or Broken Teeth: Preserve any tooth fragments, and rinse both your mouth and the broken pieces with warm water. In case of bleeding, apply gauze to the area for approximately 10 minutes or until bleeding ceases. To alleviate swelling, consider applying a cold compress to the external part of your mouth.

Knocked-Out Tooth: Retrieve the tooth, hold it by the crown (the part visible in the mouth), and rinse the tooth with water if it's dirty. Try to reinsert it in the pocket if possible. If not, place the tooth in a small container filled with milk (or water mixed with a pinch of salt) and promptly bring it to your dentist for immediate attention.

Lost Filling or Crown: If a crown falls off, save the crown and schedule an appointment as soon as you can. If a filling falls out, a temporary filling material can be applied from a pharmacy dental kit to protect the tooth until you see the dentist.

Abscess: Abscesses are infections at the root of a tooth or between the gums and teeth. It's a serious condition that can damage tissue and surrounding teeth, possibly spreading to other parts of the body. Rinse your mouth with a mild saltwater solution several times a day and see the dentist as soon as possible.

What should I do in a dental emergency?

  • Stay Calm: Panicking can worsen the situation. Try to stay as calm as possible.
  • Assess the Situation: Determine the severity of the situation. For severe cases like heavy bleeding, severe pain, or knocked-out teeth, seek immediate dental care.
  • Manage Pain and Bleeding: Apply a cold compress to manage swelling and use gauze to control bleeding.
  • Contact the Dentist: Call Dental Bliss immediately. We offer advice on immediate steps and arrange for prompt treatment.

What happens during an emergency dental visit?

During an emergency visit:

  1. Prompt Assessment: Our team will quickly assess your situation to determine the extent of the injury or issue.
  2. Immediate Care: The primary goal is alleviating pain and stabilising the condition. This may involve procedures like applying a temporary dressing, reinserting a knocked-out tooth, or prescribing medication to manage infection or discomfort.
  3. Follow-up Treatment Plan: After addressing the immediate concern, we'll discuss a follow-up treatment plan to resolve the underlying issue and prevent future complications.

We at Dental Bliss Clinic are committed to providing rapid and effective care for dental emergencies. Our approach is focused on alleviating pain, addressing immediate concerns, and laying the groundwork for long-term dental health.
